Food

If you’re hungry or struggling to get food, there are a lot of food pantry’s and soup kitchens throughout the county. A food pantry is a place where you get food to bring home. A soup kitchen is where you can go for a hot meal.

To find a food pantry or soup kitchen near you, go to Feeding Westchester.

To receive a food cash allowance, you can apply for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) using the internet at myBenefits.ny.gov, or by mail, fax or in person at your local Department of Social Services (DSS). You households eligibility will be determined once the application is reviewed and an interview is conducted. The interview may even be done by telephone.

Online application is recommended. If you go to a local DSS office, check their hours and be sure it is the one that serves your area, which is determined by zipcode. The list of local DSS offices is located here.
