To apply for services, call or go to the district office serving your area as defined by town and zip code.  There are four locations as listed below.

  • 100 East First Street, Mount Vernon, NY 10550-3442
  • 85 Court Street | White Plains, NY 10601-4201 (primary location for returning citizens to apply for temporary shelter, see ubformation below)
  • 750 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY 10566-5499
  • 131 Warburton Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10701

Applications for SNAP benefits may be submitted online at My Benefits New York; this is the easiest and quickest way to apply.

Services can take up to 45 days to put in place, but shelter placement can be immediate. The New York State Applications for Certain Benefits and Services (otda.ny.gov/programs/applications/2921.pdf) may have been completed by your transitions coordinator and shared with the Department of Social Services electronically in advance of your return.

If you have retuned from a correctional facility, your facility transitions coordinator will likely have worked with you to complete the DSS application in advance of your return.
