Mental Health

I want to talk to someone. Where can I go?
I feel unsafe – what can I do?

Most assume mental health problems affect others and believe it won’t affect our family or friends, let alone ourselves. The truth is that mental health problems are more common than heart disease, lung disease, and cancer combined. Further, the strains, stresses and challenges of today’s society – and our ability to meet these in the context of reconnecting with our lives after incarceration – increase our vulnerability and likelihood of encountering mental health problems and mental disorders.

If you are concerned for yourself, a friend, or a family member, there are ways to get support. Visit this page to find a clinic provider within any town in Westchester County

If there is a risk of causing immediate harm to yourself or others – make a call:

  • 911 for emergency services
  • National Suicide Prevention Helpline 1 (800) 273-TALK (1-800-273-8255)
  • Here is the complete list of Emergency Phone Numbers.

If you want to speak with a mental health counselor and you have health insurance contact any of the groups listed below – you can scan the list by location. If you do not have health insurance, many of these organizations offer low-cost and sliding scale services, so start by identifying a site that you can get to and then call to ask about payment. As a starting point, look at the information for the two largest multi-service organizations in Westchester County: Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS), and Family Services of Westchester.

If you feel unsafe there are Shelters and Services for Survivors of Abuse and Domestic Violence

If you are experiencing abuse or are a survivor of abuse, you have the right to support. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or your local police department. You can also review this complete list of emergency numbers and services for shelters and support.

Remember that if you are searching the Internet from a home computer, the sites you visit can be tracked in your search history; you may prefer to use a public computer or delete your search history.
